PINK SATURDAY - MARCH 28, 2009

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY!  Again, thanks to Beverly at howsweetthesound.typepad.com for creating this fun for all of us!  Please visit her blog to find all the other wonderful Pink Participants!

This week I am showing my husband's contribution to Pink Saturday!  He has painted the many moods of pink for me.  Did you know that colors have moods just as we do?  See if you can figure out each mood......shhhh, I'm not telling - you decide.

Have your decision?  I guess that everything in life has different moods - we certainly do!  Right now, mine seems to be Mood #1! 

Unfortunately, I will not be participating for the next 3 Saturdays as we will be out of town.  We are taking 100 people with us to Los Angeles for the Dance Excellence International convention.  Only one state from the United States or one country from the rest of this big world are picked to participate. We have been fortunate to be picked for the last 20 years to represent the state of Missouri.  Yeah us!!!!  Then we will be packing up Ashley (daughter), who lives in LA and will be moving her home for the summer.  She will be performing this summer in "42nd Street" and "Camelot" at the MUNY then moving to Paris to attend the Paris Fashion Institute!

Yes, we will be visiting her - LOL!

PINK SATURDAY - March 21, 2009

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY!  Thanks again to Beverly at howsweetthesound.typepad.com for hosting another Pink Saturday for us to enjoy.  Please visit all the other participants!

This week I thought I would show you Noodle and her pink eyes.  People (especially children) always ask what's wrong with her eyes....nothing I say, God just gave her pinks eyes!  They even get pinker (is that a word?) when she gets tired.  It's kind of funny!

Here she is all up in my business while I was trying to take her picture.  She is so nosy!

The next pink is a shameless plug.  This is a fairy door I made for my friends granddaughter.  Her room is in pink and white toile.  I made it into just a "fairy door" and not a "tooth fairy door" since she is a little young for losing teeth.  She will just have to have a different one when that time comes!  Every little girl needs her own fairy door!

FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!!!!

Finally, it's officially SPRING!  Even though it was in the 30's this morning and there is not a single thing in my yard in bloom......the sun is shining and it is SPRING!  There is hope!!!

In my previous post, I mentioned my love/hate relationship with the first day of Spring.  I love it because as I said before that means hope - for warmer weather, sunny - not gray days, beautiful flowers in bloom, birds singing, new baby birds learning to fly and appearing at my bird feeder, being able to spend a little time on the deck and in the gazebo, longer days, the thought that soon (about 3 months!) things at the studio will be slowing down a bit (a bit is the crucial word here), in other words - new beginnings!

The reason I don't like it (I shouldn't say hate, it's such a strong word) is because my Mom died on the first day of Spring.  She had battled with cancer for a VERY long time. If you ever had the pleasure to meet or know my Mom you would know how fitting it was that she would pass away on that day.  My Mom never lost her optimism that things would be fine (or at least that's what she made us believe), she cherished each day for what new hope it could bring and very rarely ever let you know how worried, sad or how much pain she was experiencing.  She always had HOPE!

On that somewhat gray day, she lay in her hospital bed, drifting in and out. She had a time when she could tell us how much she loved us and that no matter what we needed to take care of each other and Dad.  Then she seemed to fade into a fitful sleep.   While her eyes were closed she seemed to be seeing something - she would smile, frown and mumble words that we couldn't understand but clearly whomever she was speaking to could.  She had a huge window in the room that when the sun finally came out she turned her head towards it and seemed to be soaking in the warmth that surrounded her and us alike.

The nurses came in to hook up her drip for the pain killers and while doing so, she took her last breath - with a smile on her face.  She didn't want that - she had finished talking to us and meeting whomever it was she was seeing and she was ready to go to the light - towards the sun, where there was no more pain.

It was the first day of Spring...........a new BEGINNING!

JUST HAVING A DAY.......

Do you ever just have one of those days when you know you are not yourself and you try really hard to ignore the feeling?  Then something that you see everyday in your home and usually don't pay much attention to - suddenly hits you like a ton of bricks!  That is me today.  This is what did it for me today:

This is my Dad with Ashley - she was about 2 years old.  My Dad came over to our house almost everyday to get his "Ashley fix".  Sometimes he would take her to the carousel in a local park so she could ride the ponies, sometimes he came over to eat cinnamon rolls with her for breakfast and sometimes he just came over for the two of them to take a nap together in the chair.  Funny how things that seemed so normal and usual that you took for granted, you wish you could have back.

I know exactly what is bringing all this on......it happens every year at this time......it starts about a week before the first day of spring..........and it really isn't about my Dad.......well kind of, but not really.

Come back on Friday and I will explain my love/hate relationship with the first day of Spring.

PINK SATURDAY - MARCH 14, 2009

Happy Pink Saturday - or in my case, Happy Raspberry Saturday!  Raspberry counts as a pink, doesn't it?

I was looking around our house for something pink to contribute for Pink Saturday and what I came up with this week is all raspberry.

You see, our house is decorated in blues, yellows, greens and raspberry.  We don't have very much pink-pink.  This is a picture of our bedspread and headboard.  Please excuse Noodle, the Princess, she insisted on being in the picture!

Just so you can see the raspberry color better, I took a close up of the pillow:

I bought these pretty "raspberry" gerber daisies at Trader Joes the other day:

And for my final picture.........the real thing............RASPBERRIES!!!!!!

They are so yummy!

MY FRIENDS - THE SANTONS!

I bought these two santons at a French store in Coronado, CA quite a few years ago.  I fell in love with them immediately.  The first one to come home with us was the Chef:

Then on a second trip the Waiter came home with us!

They have the most beautiful and intricate faces.  It seems like at any moment they could come to life!

I just want to "pinch" they little red cheeks

We gave them names after we bought them, however I can't remember the Chefs name and the Waiter was "Guido".  That doesn't seem proper since Guido is Italian, I believe, and these are Frenchmen.  Besides, Ashley had a friend named Guido who passed away on tour in Europe of a heart problem while they were with the YA's.  So, we don't feel as if that is to fitting to call him Guido anymore.

Do you have any ideas for French names for our friends?

Mostly they just keep watch over my kitchen - I'm not sure what they are watching.  It certainly isn't my cooking, because I don't do that much.  I guess they just keep the kitchen safe.  I do believe they are both on a quest to catch all the dust they can.....Mr. Waiter always seems to have a tray full that he doesn't seem to serve it to anyone but me.  The Chef....seems to like to collect dust in his hat and is cooking a little in his pot!  Anyone care for some Dust Soup?

I have been on the lookout for a French woman who has a basket of flowers.  Haven't seem to be able to find one in stock anywhere lately.  I think it's time to add a woman!  Maybe she would be more help! LOL

PINK SATURDAY - MARCH 7, 2008

WELCOME to another Pink Saturday and thanks once again to Beverly of howsweetthesound.typepad.com for all her hard work every week.  Make sure to visit the other Pink Saturday participants!

This Saturday I decided since we were under a "wind advisory" on Friday, I would post a few things that were pink and needed wind!

First I have this pinwheel that Ashley gave me one year for my birthday:

I remember when I was little and we lived in Oklahoma, we had a window air conditioner in our family room.  I would sit by the hour in front of the air conditioner with a pinwheel - probably made of paper, not plastic like this one.  It was so fun to watch it go at least "one hundred" miles an hour, round and round.  Sometimes when you got it too close it would make the greatest noises!!  But then my Mom would come in and tell us (my sister, Cathy and I) to get the pinwheel away from the air conditioner - besides we were blocking all the air - so move away.  We would politely nod "okay" and then continue to go about our pinwheel business! :)   Oh, those were the days - such fun from such a simple toy.

One more thing I would like to share is a little sculpture that hangs in my kitchen.  I had to move it to take this picture because it hangs in a window over the kitchen sink and with the sun (yes, we had a little sun today - gasp) it was too dark.  So, I flew her to the dining room wall so I could take the picture.  Fortunately, she can fly anytime and anywhere she wants, she doesn't need the wind!

I found her flying her kite in a little store in Manhattan Beach, CA.  Unfortunately the store isn't there anymore...how sad.  The pictures don't show how pretty she is and the detail on her dress.
