While drinking my coffee this morning I decided to take some pictures of the visitors at my bird feeder. We have many different kinds of birds - however, I only got a few. I couldn't spend my entire day taking pictures! I took them through the kitchen window - which needs to be cleaned :( and some are shot through the screen. I took them with the telephoto lens as to not scare them away.
First we have the BIG WOODPECKER:
Then we have the mother Cardinal who seems to know I was taking her picture!
SMILE!
Then her hubby decided to join her for brunch (remember I don't do early mornings, so this had to be brunch). I guess he was feeding her or maybe I was taking pictures of more than brunch!
Next in line at the feeder was my absolute favorite.....the Indigo Bunting. I just love them because they are so little and such a beautiful blue. I think we have quite a few pairs this year. The only bad thing is that they don't stay for long. I guess they know we have good food so they stop for a little while before continuing their travels.
Then that little bird was joined by a female goldfinch. You can tell she is female since she doesn't have her gold color yet - she also seems to be a bit shy. It's so nice to see them get along - usually two different birds don't like to eat at the same time at our feeder! I guess they are friends.
Next came a LITTLE woodpecker and a house finch.
That friendship didn't last long because another LITTLE woodpecker came along and the finch was gone!
Under the watchful eye of my camera - it seems they were watching the cardinals ...either enjoying brunch or I HAVE A VERY ROMANTIC RESTAURANT!
The male goldfinch stopped by. I believe he was waiting for his wife/girlfriend. Looks pretty lonely and sad, doesn't he?
Not to worry - she finally showed up! I'm sure she was putting on her golden dress/feathers - so much better than the drab one she was wearing earlier when she was "out" with the Indigo Bunting!
But the romance at the bird feeder all ended when the mean BLUE JAY showed up and cleared out the place. He doesn't like to share anything with anybody!
However, Mr. BJAY isn't nearly as mean as the BLACKBIRDS. I didn't get a picture of them because I changed the food to one they don't like because they were eating it all in less than a day. They wouldn't let any other birds come near the feeders. I'll show them whose boss.
One of these days I will take a picture of the squirrels trying to get into the "squirrel proof feeder" - it's great entertainment.
I spend entirely too much time doing things like this and then wonder why my "to do list" turns into my "I didn't do" list! I think it's called procrastination - does that happen to you?
Have a good day and a better tomorrow!

p.s. - the old saying "she/he eats like a bird" must mean she/he eats A LOT. My birds can clear out a feeder in no time!
Oh Caren!
What a beautiful post. I love the birds, and we really don't get anything but sparrows and black birds, and my hummingbird ofcourse. I think it is just to hot here. I have tried everything I can to attract pretty birds but to no avale. I heard my bell ring this afternoon and the postman delivered a wonderful little box that held inside a wonderful gift just for me. I was so thrilled. I love red, as that is what I have collected over the years and is in my china cabinet. It is so pretty and I thank you so much. I am going to go and post a pic and a thank you on my blog. Have a wonderful blessed day.

How awesome to see this in the am or brunch time. What the Life!!!! As a bird that is. Loved the story book feeling and music that went with it. Can't wait to see what is next.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh beautiful, cute, colorful birds! :-) Me like! Loving those two cardinal couple. I'd like to think they're they're just having a break from their meal and just wanted to show how they adore each other. Isn't that sweet? :-)
The bluejay is big. no wonder those little birds went flying away. And good no meanie birds go there anymore :-)

Li
